The Wealth Decisions Podcast

My name is Brian Muller and I am a fiduciary financial advisor and the founder of Momentous Wealth Advisors in Woodbury Minnesota. I grew up in North St. Paul and have lived in Woodbury with my family since 2010 and I am passionate about helping individuals make better financial decisions.

Each week on the Wealth Decisions Podcast I discuss one crucial wealth decision I think you need to make to help build and keep more of your wealth so you can live a richer life. I aim to keep every podcast under 15 minutes and I truly believe that those 15 minutes can have a significant impact on your future wealth. Watch the video below and page down to listen to the podcast on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.

  • Wealth Decision #1- Living Within Your Means

A rich life is not just about nice things. We can find a balance between a fulfilling life and saving for the future by being clear on what truly matters to us both now and in the long run.

  • Wealth Decision #2- Pay Yourself First

Most individuals pay their bills and then invest if there is anything left over. A better wealth decision is to pay yourself first by putting a percentage of money away before you pay your bills.

  • Wealth Decision #3- Invest in High Quality Stocks

Early in my investing life, I always tried to find the next Amazon, Netflix, or Microsoft. I found stocks that did well in the short term, chased momentum growth stocks, and invested in smaller companies thinking I was smarter than the rest of the market.

  • Wealth Decision #4: Taking Advantage of Roth IRAs and Roth 401k Options.

Many individuals make too much money to contribute to Roth IRAs, because of the income limits imposed on eligibility. What many don’t know, is that there is a strategy called the Back-Door Roth IRA that allows anyone to contribute to a Roth IRA without income limits.

  • Wealth Decision #5- Don’t Just Invest in Your 401k

If all of your money is in a Traditional 401k, every dime you take out when you retire will be taxable. We don’t know where tax rates will be 10 or 20 years from now, so having all your money in a tax-deferred account doesn’t give you a lot of control.

  • Wealth Decision #6- Be Frugal with Windfalls

Inheriting a significant sum of money can be a life-changing event, but it's important to approach it with a frugal mindset to ensure long-term financial security. The statistics show that it takes people who inherit money about 18 months to spend it all. Don’t be a statistic.

  • Wealth Decision #7- Never Try to Time The Market

If you ever panic and get out of the market, you will always find a reason to get back in. It is impossible to time the market. You have to be right twice. You have to get out at the right time (near a high) and get back in at the right time(near a low).

  • Wealth Decision #8- Don’t Borrow Money to Buy Stocks

Investing with borrowed money or buying on margin is one of the greatest ways to 2-3x your returns but it also is a good way to 2-3x your losses. I learned this valuable lesson early in my investing life along with many others in the tech boom and bust from 1999-2000.

  • Wealth Decision #9- Hire a Financial Advisor

What does a financial advisor do?

An advisor sits down with you and finds out what is important to you and then will create a financial plan to help you reach your financial goals.

  • Wealth Decision #10- Know Your Money Values

In this Episode, I will be discussing a crucial wealth decision that not many of us really think about much, but it is essential to understand so you can get a better handle of your finances. Know Your Money Values.

Mindset is a big part of building and keeping your wealth. In this episode, I discuss how to remove the money blocks that may be in your way from building and keeping your wealth.

  • Episode #12- Improving Your Relationship With Money

To improve your relationship with money, you need to look at the beliefs and mindset you have about money. Without doing this, you can learn all you can about Roth IRA’s, or stock investing or ETF’s, but their will still be a piece of the puzzle missing that will hold you back from making the right decisions.

  • Episode #13- Designing Your Rich Life

“Without a future well-defined, we take hesitant steps” -Jim Rohn

A rich life is not just about wealth. I have a philosophy on life, health and wealth that I call the M.A.D.E Life Philosophy

  • Episode #14- Raise Your Financial and Life Standards

A lot of the issues we have around money, comes down to the standards we have set for ourselves around money. This goes for our personal relationships as well as our health.

  • Episode #15- Creating a Compelling Vision of Your Future

  • Episode #25- Stress Test Your Financial Plan Quarterly

A proper financial plan will give you the ability to stress-test your plan against different scenarios- like higher inflation, higher taxes, unexpected medical expenses, or a sudden drop in the markets.

Passive investment Strategies are an important component of a portfolio to keep fees low. The great debate is whether active mutual funds are worth the extra cost.

Credit card debt is a wealth killer. The average interest rate on a credit card is a whopping 28%. Only buy things that you can afford to pay off.
